Restaurant Outreach: No Veal

Concerned citizens can play a major role in preventing the suffering of veal calves by contacting local restaurants and other food establishments and urging them not to sell veal. Over 500 conscientious businesses across the United States have pledged not to serve veal, and we are urging others to do the same.

To help with this effort, please call or visit food establishments in your area. Inform the chef or manager about the cruelty of veal production, and encourage them to sign Farm Sanctuary's pledge not to serve veal. It may help to provide them with literature or other materials.

If the restaurant refuses to sign the pledge, and insists upon selling veal from calves raised in crates and fed a diet that causes anemia, you may want to consider handing out leaflets in front of the restaurant to educate consumers. In addition, writing letters to the editor of local newspapers, displaying posters, distributing flyers, putting a bumper sticker on your car, and conducting other local educational efforts will also help to raise awareness.
